STRATEGIES FOR GOAL-SETTING SUCCESS
WHAT IS SUCCESS?
Success comes to you when you have put in an effort into getting something done well.
It means that you set out to achieve a goal and buy the time you have taken the right actions needed to achieve that goal, you get the exact results that you set out to achieve. That is SUCCESS!! Hurray! Time to celebrate!
LET’S LOOK AT THE VARIOUS STEPS TO SUCCESS.
– You need to have a Goal: what do you want to achieve?
– How do you want to achieve it – what steps do you need to take to achieve this goal?
– How will you know if you are doing the right things that will eventually lead you to success?
– If you have no Idea where to start, what can you do?
-What time-scale should you give yourself to achieve this goal?
SET A S.M.A.R.T. GOAL.
To set a Goal that will work for you, you need to do the following:
Make sure that you have a specific goal in mind – nothing vague or not well-thought out. If you want to get a new job, for example, set a specific goal for that. You could say: “I want to get a job as a waitress”, but it would be better if you said: ” I want to work as a waitress in a 3-Star, 4-Star or 5-Star Hotel”. Choose one.
MAKE YOUR GOAL MEASURABLE.
By measurable, it means that you need to be able to know when you getting to that goal – for example, what necessary steps can you take towards achieving that goal? Do you need to attend a Course on Waitressing? If you have already trained, do you need a refresher course?
Do you have an updated CV? If yes, where would be the best Job Boards to upload your CV so you can be found be recruiters?
MAKE YOUR GOAL ACHIEVABLE.
To make your goal achievable, you need to ensure that you have the right resources to enable you achieve your goals. It’s a good thing to dream big, but dreams that are way above your abilities or your resources may not be easily achievable for you.
MAKE YOUR GOAL REALISTIC.
Just as the last point, it is important to be very realistic when you are setting yourself a goal. Go for something you are sure is realistic and within your means and resources. This means that you have some of what you need and will be able, if needed, to get whatever else you need – either through new training or through the help of people you know, like your friends and family, etc.
MAKE YOUR GOAL TIME-CONSTRAINED.
This simply means that you should set a time, date, etc, when you expect to achieve your goal. Give it a Week’s time, two weeks’ time., one month’s time, three months’ time etc.
The best way to do this is to break your big goal down to smaller chunks – so that you can put time-scales on each of the goals. Choose to work on the easiest one first, like:
– Writing or updating your CV – within a week.
– Next, upload it to a Job board – within the next two weeks.
– Send off as many applications as possible – within one or two months.
– Prepare yourself the best way you can for possible interviews-within one or two months.
– Get the job.. !! Within one to three or four months.
You can set whatever time-scale that suit your circumstances best.
That is how you set your S.M.A.R.T. Goals!
